Folk Painting

Examples of folk paintings can be seen in the decorations used on trucks and carts and on walls where the extraordinary mythological creatures of legend are portrayed. In glass painting, produced with different colours and silvering papers, the most commonly used designs are the sahmaran (the main female character of a legend who has the body of a snake) and unicorns. In addition to these, views (the İstanbul Strait, lakes with swans, village scenes), bunches of flowers, and especially roses, and evil eye designs are used to embellish horse carriages and carts.

Carpets, rugs and other woven goods produced by the women of Anatolia may be considered examples of abstract painting.
